From prison to purpose in his life’s second act as a barber and real estate agent.

Buford, GA- Every Monday morning inside the intimate Halls Barbershop Andrew Hall moves with steady confidence and clippers humming, shapes fade of regulars in the small storefront opened 14 ago after getting out of prison, carrying the lingering aftershave-and-grind coffee and soft bouncing voices makes feels to the visitors walk in to somebody’s living room instead a business in that part of town where he came from after spending a total time of one year on a 17-month sentence in prison.

Hall, at 41, is proving what a lot of people thought was impossible: building two careers, one in Hall’s Barbershop and the other as a licensed real estate agent helping with first-time buyers in disadvantaged communities, after being given a second chance.

“I am not trying to be anybody’s hero,” Hall says while cutting a client’s hair. “I just want young people like these who are walking through that door to see that no matter how far your past is gone.” You still can build something that matters and be an example for others,” Hall added. But before all this change had taken place in his life, “The streets were cold, I was homeless for a period, when he got out there,” he further added.

Hall’s own road to entrepreneurship was not easy. After spending time in prison as a young man, he emerged determined to recast his future. Now, that future consists of two businesses, allowing him to give back to his community in different ways. Hall said the barbershop is more than just about haircuts. It serves as a place where local men discuss jobs, fatherhood, credit scores, and goal setting. He is intentional about hiring barbers who are also working to rebuild their lives. “Everybody in here has a story, ” he said.

“Some of my guys came in looking for work with nothing but a dream and a motivation to learn. Now they’re supporting their families. That is the part that keeps me showing up every day.

“Hall balances the shop with his accelerating real estate business. He takes on clients with lower credit scores or a history of financial mishaps, leading them through the home-buying process. Last year, he guided 3 families to purchase their first homes.

“I tell my real estate clients what I tell the young guys in the chair: your last chapter does not determine your next one, ” Hall says. “I have sat across from people who were told no their whole lives. When they finally hear yes on their loan, the look on their faces is everything. “

Ms. Lopez is a community organizer who has known Hall for four years and refers people to him for both barbering services and real estate needs. She says his influence is clear anywhere you look across the neighborhood.

“Andrew does not just talk about second chances, he lives them and then hands them to other people, “she says. “The barbershop has become a hub for young men who need guidance, and his real estate work is literally helping families put down roots. He is proof that one person who decides to change can cause a ripple effect. “

Even with two flourishing enterprises, Hall remains grounded in a simple agenda. He keeps the doors open six days a week, taking calls about his real estate business in the evenings and squeezing in time to mentor at-risk youth with a local non-profit whenever he is off work every Saturday morning.

Asked what he wanted people to think from his story, Hall leaned back a moment and answered:

‘I want young professionals to realize that those who think they messed up, consistency beats perfection, show up every day, learn something new, deal with people respectfully, and the rest starts to fall into place. It is what I am striving to do now.’

As the clippers buzzed, the next customer seated, it was clear Hall was no longer defined by who he was, but by what he builds, one Haircut, one home sale, and one simple chat at a time.
